Bratislava's castle



History of Bratislava castle starts from 10-th century, in the time of Celts and Big Morava. The castle was built at strategic place, protected from one side with big river Danube and with forests of Malé Karpaty form other side. Since 16-th century Hungarian parliament used to have meeting there and the coronation jewels of Hungarian kings were placed in the coronation tower. When the royal court had moved to Vienna there was General seminar based in the castle where many scientists were studying. In 1811 the castle burnt down. Reconstruction took place as late as in the 60's of 20-th century. At present time there are expositions of Slovak National Museum , representative rooms for the president and the parliament of the Slovak Republic. The castle has been declarated as national culture heritage.
